When someone posts a thought-provoking question on social media that’s NOT actually riddled with superficiality, the responses can be all over the board.  Some get uncomfortable and all you get is crickets, others get nasty, and then maybe, just maybe a bit of wisdom shines though.

If you listen to Miracles & Atheists, you already know we don’t like baseless rhetoric, regardless of where it comes from: Christian or atheist.  So when I go through comments on a post that says, “Biggest beef with Christianity…go 👇” I typically weed through A LOT of scoffing and mockery, almost always from atheists.  Yet, we did find a gem, one that really deserves more attention and a deeper dive.  Our guest, Jeruss Harrison’s comments were well thought through, articulate, and thought-provoking.  Here’s his response:

San Francisco native, Jerrus Harrison’s comments really stood out us.  Jerrus is a secular humanist, digital & social marketing consultant and music producer.  He’s spearheaded digital and social strategies for companies across a number of industries, he’s a certified personal trainer, an actor, model and live event host. I loved this conversation with Jerrus, we enjoyed hearing his heart and unpacking some of his criticisms of the Christian faith, most of which had to do with what he describes as a lack of EVIDENCE for God, and a lack of evidence for modern-day miracles.

M&A021 – The Devil’s War for Your Mind (w/ Carol Lynn Rivera & Connie Lawson) https://miraclesandatheists.com/021 https://miraclesandatheists.com/021#respond Wed, 24 Mar 2021 01:00:58 +0000 https://miraclesandatheists.com/?p=1230

We’re a bit overdue in talking about supernatural experiences!  I’s time to dive more into demon possession, oppression, or suppression, whatever you want to call it…some say it’s just the way the mind works.  Others say it’s spiritual warfare. Either way, it’s not fun, and if demonic oppression is real, it’s not from God.

We welcome Connie Lawson, host of the Weeds Seeds and Beautiful Things podcast, a hard, hope-filled, humorous show that seeks to help you walk in radical faith. Connie is a Christian speaker who has the ability to mix hard truths with honesty, experience, and compassion while giving practical advice and steps for improvement, all while making you laugh. Connie has an intense story and she wanted to be part of the Miracles & Atheists podcast because she believes our listeners would benefit from hearing what the Lord has done in her life.

We’re also pleased to welcome Nick’s friend, Carol Lynn Rivera.  Carol Lynn is a CEO, writer, marketer, project manager and podcaster. She enjoys entrepreneurial life and owns multiple businesses including several startups and a marketing company, and Carol Lynn is an atheist, only for the sake of a label (because it’s not her favorite). Carol Lynn wanted to be on the show because she thinks the more we can talk to people with different viewpoints the more we learn to understand, accept and respect them. It’s important for us to be able to learn from each other and even disagree without harboring ill feelings and sowing division.

So have fun digging in MAC (Miracles & Atheists Community)…we’re diving deep today!

M&A020 – But I’m Not Racist! (w/ Keisha Villareal and Jerome Hill Jr.) https://miraclesandatheists.com/020 https://miraclesandatheists.com/020#respond Wed, 10 Mar 2021 01:00:10 +0000 https://miraclesandatheists.com/?p=1196

From our many conversations with atheists, a pattern we’ve noticed is that one of the primary catalysts for a person accepting an atheistic world view is due to hypocrisy in the Church. Racism is a good example of this hypocrisy.

Instead of leading the discussion, the Church as a whole has been relatively silent.  From what we’ve been told, the silence is deafening.

But I’m not racist! You may say…

Listen for more.

Today we’ll be challenging ourselves a bit, and talk about racism in the church. It’s a unique episode, because we originally recorded LIVE on Facebook, but thought it important enough to put it out on the podcast.

The Church as a whole has been relatively silent about racism, and from what we’ve been told, the silence is deafening.  Marcus was first told this by our guest, Keisha Villareal…

Keisha is on the leadership team at Marcus’ church New Bethel in Raleigh, NC. He had an uncomfortable conversation with her a couple months back, and that conversation propagated action.

Our second guest is Mr. Jerome Hill Jr.  You may recognize his name, because Jerome handles a great deal of our social media efforts for the Miracles and Atheists platform and he does an excellent job.  In addition, Jerome is the Digital Marketing Manager at iServe Residential Lending and he studied economics at Middle Tennessee University.  Jerome is a Christian DJ, also known as DJ Rome.

It was an important, powerful conversation that we hope sets a new standard that will inspire you to have your own uncomfortable conversations about racism.

M&A019 – Does Prayer Really Work? (w/ Robby Graham & Jason “Stray Cat” Williams) https://miraclesandatheists.com/019 https://miraclesandatheists.com/019#respond Tue, 23 Feb 2021 01:00:37 +0000 https://miraclesandatheists.com/?p=1170

Do people really still think prayer works?  Aren’t we more civilized these days, than having to rely on prayer to get things done?  We already have sufficient evidence for why things happen, but none for God, right?

Today you’re in for a philosophical treat. We get to talk to our atheist friend, Jason “Stray Cat” Williams, who says prayer is a “hot button” for him, not to mention a waste of time.  On the flip side, we introduced Jason to a “prayer warrior,” Mr. Robby Graham, who believes prayer is probably the best use of time anyone could spend.  You’ll get two very opposing views, which serve as a truly interesting and engaging conversation.

Jason doesn’t believe in the supernatural, insofar as there is no evidence. However, he does find both meditation and the power of positive thought interesting based on his personal experience, even though he says there is limited supporting scientific and/or medical evidence.

TOUGH QUESTION OF THE WEEK

What’s the point of tithing?

Click Here to Unpack it on Facebook!

As a Humanist and former Buddhist, Jason believes the world can be made a better place by compassionately accepting the truth rather than boldly promoting delusion.  He’s a TRUTH-SEEKER…you know we love that, and in case you were wondering they call him “Stray Cat” because he’s always wandering about the globe with traveling adventures.  Jason recorded with us from Guatemala, after a very serious accident where he suffered from a number of severe injuries. He used our interview as a test to see how long he could stand up and if he’s ready to go back to work teaching English…he’s a fascinating guy and we enjoyed getting to know Jason.

On the other hand, representing the Christian position we have Robby Graham.  At age 51, Robby was homeless and living at the Salvation Army adult rehabilitation Center due to an IV drug addiction.  Three months after getting sober he found Jesus Christ, he met his wife Mia eight months later…

That’s right, 8 MONTHS LATER!  Mia married this homeless man who was horribly addicted to opiates just three months before she met him!

Today, Robby and Mia own and founded Revelations Cafe in Lutz, FL.  In fact, this coming April of 2021 Robby and Mia will be releasing a 90 minute documentary titled: “Revelations Cafe , Food for the Soul”. It will encompass the reason why the café was birthed and the many signs, miracles and wonders leading up to opening the cafe

Robby says, yes! miracles do happen and he is living proof!  It was a blessing to have Robby and Jason on the show.

M&A018 – Demons & Witch Doctors (w/ Drew Smith & Patrick Wandera) https://miraclesandatheists.com/018 https://miraclesandatheists.com/018#respond Tue, 09 Feb 2021 01:00:46 +0000 https://miraclesandatheists.com/?p=1128

Would you believe a cannibal man lost his VAMPIRE teeth after demons were cast out of him, and now he preaches Jesus?  Maybe it’s all just a healthy dose of placebo…have a listen as we pair up Pastor Patrick Wandera, from Uganda, Africa with Genealogist and atheist, Drew Smith for an absolutely fascinating conversation.

Our guest, Drew Smith has been a librarian at the University of South Florida in Tampa since 2007 and is internationally known as a genealogy speaker and writer, having written 3 books and numerous articles on the topic. Together with his husband, George G. Morgan, he has co-hosted the Genealogy Guys Podcast since 2005, and is also the host for an all-interview podcast, Genealogy Connection. His podcasts have received nearly 3 million downloads!

He says he went through a period in late high school where he tried to make religious belief work in some sort of way consistent with a worldview based on science and reason, but found that he could not.

Drew is joined by Evangelist Patrick Wandera, who serves as a full-time minister of the Gospel with Deliverance Church Makerere Hill in Kampala, Uganda. He is a much sought after open air and conference speaker. He has ministered all over Uganda, the East African region and beyond in the power of the Holy Spirit, with signs and wonders following. He is an author of powerful deliverance books such as Seven Years in Hell and Soul Merchants.

I’m not sure Nick and Marcus have ever had such an intriguing, nearly unbelievable conversation as they did on this episode.

When you bring a Muslim and an atheist together to talk about hell, well, there’s just no predicting what will come of it, with ONE exception: the conversation will be anything but dull.

We welcome Ashley Sanders, a young comedian, entrepreneur and podcast host. She’s an atheist, but grew up in the church and has read the Bible three times!  Ashley was on our Miracles & Atheists live-stream a few years ago and wanted to be part of the podcast again because in her words, it’s a great way promote diplomacy, which is something she believes can change the world.

To keep the conversation riveting, we also welcomed our guest, Iqbal Ali, from New Delhi.  Ali worked and went to school at King Saud University, in Saudi Arabia.  He’s a passionate and devout Muslim, who, as you’ll be able to hear from our conversation, enjoys apologetics perhaps even more than the hosts of The Miracles and Atheists Podcast!

We talked in depth about the Christian, Muslim and yes, even atheist beliefs (or unbeliefs) about hell and the purpose of life.  It’s a far better use of time than listening to the mainstream media….that’s a promise!  Enjoy.

Did “they” add hell to the Bible to scare people into living a life without sin?

Does hell not exist because “they” added it to the Book to scare people into living a life without sin? Can we use our own “Christ consciousness” to stop time?

So many interesting topics come up when you start talking about hell. The idea that any of creation would find his or herself in hell has a way of bringing a wide range of emotional topics to the surface that we’re not all that used to talking about.

So let’s talk about em!

Our guest, Illiana Villalpando is a truth-seeker and spiritual researcher who does not believe that hell exists.  She accepts some parts of Christianity, some Buddhism, a bit of Hinduism, and all of science.  Illiana is a self-proclaimed agnostic, who chose to be part of our program to open the minds of others and their perspective of good and evil.

As always, we had an interesting conversation about a number of topics our truth-seeking listeners will appreciate.

Finding God in a Trap House…

Losing God in College

When you’re raised in crooked religion, atheism can be very attractive.  Nick Snapp and Marcus Plating have a fascinating conversation with a couple of guys who were raised in religion, turned to atheism and then in two very different ways came to recognize the existence of a Divine Creator.  Both of our guests today have been part of the LGBTQ community and have very different world views of who Jesus Christ is, and what God thinks of them.

One of our guests spent time hanging with satanists and even shaved his eyebrows to become like a Buddhist monk.  Both of our guests have also had miraculous experiences you’ll get to hear about.  We really dove deep into their journeys and unpacked the mindsets they had at various milestones throughout their spiritual journey.

Asa Leveaux, America’s #1 EntreQueerNeur™ Coach, renounced atheism just two years ago.  He has a fascinating story about growing up as a pastor’s kid in a twisted church culture.  We dove deep into how he turned to atheism, and then away from it and into a Universalist world view.

We also invited Leeroy “Cosmix” Alvarez back to the Miracles & Atheists podcast. Leeroy considers himself a simple man with a complex past, he’s a blue collar worker hoping to start up his own insurance business and a proactive member of the local community. Leeroy Alvarez is a gospel rapper, and as an ex-atheist, he says above all, he is a Follower of Christ.

“The time of year when Christians & atheists suspend their belief systems and come together to celebrate paganism.”

-Meme, Unknown Author

We’re going to have a very uncomfortable conversation about Christmas, pagan roots and symbols related to Christmas, and try to unpack to the best of our ability whether it’s in a Christian’s best interest to partake.

It’s unsettling to even question the idea, yet, if we’re really truth-seekers, we should be doing whatever we can to understand why we believe what we believe, and why we celebrate what we celebrate.
